Bring Boots

Above Gosausee, Austria.  Must remember to pack hiking boots every time we head out toward the mountains.  You never know when we might decide to take a hike.  City sandals are out of their element up here but the views are so great I'd do it again barefooted.  That's the Dachstein Glacier out there.

  1. Beautiful scenery! I'd love to do some hiking in those mountains. Thanks for sharing your hike.

    1. We took a cable car up to the top expecting to just check out the views but found this trail beckoning us to go a little farther then farther still. The German word for this kind of hike is our word too: wandering. We found a lovely hut where you can book a nice room with these beautiful views. Will have to do that. If you are lucky enough to be at Gosausee on a cloudless night the stars are amazing.

  2. Breathless, I'm left breathless by your photos, and by just the thought of walking those mountains.

    1. Some of those slopes left me huffing and puffing as well...photo op time! Am anxious to return with proper shoes and see more.

  3. Stunning views!

Gosau, Altaussee, and the other side of Dachstein, Ramsau, are among my favorite places in Austria.
And yes, please, always pack your hiking boots! Trail hiking is so much safer with proper footwear.

Have you been up at the Dachstein glacier? If not, don't miss a hike across it, on the Ramsau side.
Hire a proper guide (essential for safe crossings), though. You'll never forget the breathtaking sights.

    1. Thanks for the tips...no, have not hiked across the Dachstein glacier...yet. Sounds like fun. Lesson learned about the hiking boots. Even if we are not planning a hike the temptation in Austria is sometimes irresistible so it's best to be prepared.
